Summery: Cape Farm Alliance Meeting
Introducing Marty Blair, a new member to CFA. Interested in Youth Programs and Education.
Update from Committees:
Ordinance workshop
· Reviewed changes to plan re: on-site sales at farm stands, wetlands setback for farming, size of farm
market before site plan is required.
· Biggest change = Definition of what are “Agricultural Activates.”
· Now M. O’Meara is incorporating changes identified. Next, the ordinance will go to the Council for
review and public hearing, then, if approved, to be voted upon by the Council.
Taxation = Stephanie Gilbert has a heavy schedule for the next while.
Education and Youth
· The school wants to build a greenhouse. Bob Morgan of Flatbread Pizza is involved. Needs more
discussion and planning, eg. which level school will participate, etc.
· Members encouraged to Google “Maine Farm Enterprise School.”
· Bee Meeting 1/14/09 = Publicity underway.
Outreach & Public Awareness
· Strawberry Fest = June 26 or July 10

New Farming Initiatives
· Mike Brennan of the Muskie School is mapping the food systems in Cumberland County.
· Penny is finding out about food insecurity on Cape Elizabeth.
· Penny is following the small producer chicken processing debate in the Legislature.
· Bill Eldridge is launching Moo Milk on Jan. 5. Moo Milk is a Washington Co. cooperative of organic milk
farmers.
· USDA will fund a Hoop House on farms that apply. Purpose = to discover what difference hoop houses
make to farming.
· Maine Farm Bureau is organizing farmers to talk about food crops and how they are grown.
Treasury
· Frank reports we have $1900.00 in the checkbook.
· CFA will make a donation of $100.00 to the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust.
Beth will take meeting notes for Louise who is not able to attend the January, February and March meetings.
