Shady Oak Farm is situated on 22 acres of land located on
Fowler Road in Cape Elizabeth. The farm was established in
1987 when Andy & Kelly Strout, family, and friends moved a
circa 1900 barn from its original site on Old Ocean House Road
to its present location. The original structure had deteriorated
and only 3 walls were salvageable. The walls were cut into
sections and moved via flatbed trailer where it was
reconstructed on a brand new foundation. A new 4th wall and roof were added
to complete the project. The farm has grown considerably since then with
the addition of several outbuildings and a 70’ x 120’ indoor riding arena.
Shady Oak Farm has blossomed into a year round boarding and riding facility offering riding lessons to
client's ages 7 years and up. Kelly oversees the week long day camps held throughout the summer for
children of all ability levels. The camp sessions focus on teaching children how to care for horses.
Kelly & Andy's daughter Rebecca, a Cumberland County 4H member for several years, raises Border
Cheviot Sheep on the farm as well. Rebecca has invited her friends to join her in the 4H club and offers to
share her sheep with them.
